Why is FIFA the world footy governing body?

There’s no reason – football can’t be “governed” as such; it’s not a country. You can start your own FIFA any day you want, but you’ll have to work hard to get any serious teams to play in your competitions. So FIFA rules because it got in first and is awkward to replace.

Yes, you create the sport. The problem is that you never learn to play it well. And why do you think you’ll be incorruptible?

Fifa were set up by consent of the majority of the sport in its time to set about standardising and governing the sport. It is how any governing body is established, by majority consent.

Because it’s around for so long. Plus they have all the big advertisers sponsoring them. It would be hard for a brand new organzation to dethrone them for the governing body.

FIFA held so many pretigious events like the World Cup events for both men, women, and the junior. A new organization will not be able to outdo the world cup no matter how big they put out.

Remembered the Goodwill Games? Ted Turner thought he can outdo the Olympics. Alas, didn’t do it.

Geneva is the headquarters of a lot of organizations because the Swiss are neutral, so Geneva has the appearance as a fair city.

Federation of international football associations. Headquarters in Switzerland because the rest of the world keeps starting fights. If you are obsessed with something, then there’s no way you can be impartial.

    You forgot cricket and polo!

Very simple: Because the national football associations of the world have agreed to it.

If they would decide tomorrow to scrap FIFA and set up a new or different organisation instead, they could do so.

However, there is little chance for that. And the idea that England should be put in charge of world football is certainly a non-runner, as the Brits cannot even run their own country in a decent way.

Because FIFA was set up by the various football bodies of the world specifically to be the world governing body. Every country ahs its own football association like the FA, they all got together many years ago, and set up FIFA.
