hi i would say France for weather and also its a lovely place to go any time of year.
If you go to the top of the Eiffel tower hang on the wind blows strong there, that is about all France has and it is in Paris. Can’t say any thing for Italy. Happy Honeymoon. France also has a lot of good wineries that you can visit.
In Mid October, climate-wise, Italy will be slightly warmer, though Venice, being the furthest north, will probably be much the same temperature as France.
I have been to both, and I hope this helps:
Paris: Is wonderful to walk round whatever the weather. It has the best art galleries in the world, no exceptions, and The Louvre is something you will never forget. Montmatre is just beautiful, it is the little village within Paris where the artists all used to live, and has some of the most wonderful cosy little French restaurants. It is bustling and vibrant, with some amazing churches and buildings. Very cultural!
Venice: Is just amazing, walking along all these bridges and narrow little passageways with the canals beneath you is just astounding, the place is steeped in atmosphere. The Rialto and the Doges Palace are definitely worth a visit, and it is just the best place to wander round.
Florence: Again, is a real city for meandering, though I also recommend hacing a walk around the rural outskirts as well, it is so pictureque seeing Florence from a distance. The Uffizi Gallery is impressive, and the overall feel of the place is very warm, mainly due to the lovely red brickwork used throughout.
Rome: My favourite of all the cities. It has such a vibrant mix of old and new, with the ancient Roman ruins, the colloseum, and then modern, bustling city life. Vatican city you will never forget, though be aware, queues can be massive.
In my opinion, though Paris is stunning, and you must go some day, Italy has so much atmosphere, and there is such a sense of history there, that for me, it is the best country in the world. You should consider Sicily as well, another gorgeous part of Italy.
Have a wonderful time!
ITALY all the way. Rome is interesting, Tuscany os beautiful and full of things to do, Milan fashion, all excellent, language wonderful etc
Have the best of both worlds: Choose the Cote de Azur – part in France, part in Italy. The North West corner of Italy. Plane to Nice, hire a car go where you want, no border, no changing francs to lira’s – all Euro’s. A truly beautiful area with the Med on one side and the Italian Alps on the other. Usually I just pass through France from Nice and go straight to Italy – the Liguria area – absolutely fabulous. I visit the seaside resorts for short periods and spend most of my time in the mountain regions. Scenery – spectacular – Food – the best I have eaten – People – the salt of the earth. Can’t wait to return!
I’m kind of biased because I am currently living in Italy, but I would definitly recommend it. The weather is good in October, but you could always be unlucky no matter where you go. Very friendly people and the best food in the world. As far as your city choices you could also pick some place a bit off the beaten path like Siena, all the charm of Tuscany with less tourists than Florence.
France is nice and you should visit Paris sometime before you die, but Italy has a charm all its own. Anyway, congrats.
Italy would be beautiful that time of year. It might be rainy though…not sure if France would be the same. Italy gets pretty rainy in the fall (at least, Venice did last year!)
I love Paris, but if you have one week and it’s in mid-October – you might be out of luck, it can be raining and cold. It also can be sunny and relatively warm and then it’s just beautiful.
If I were you, I would follow “thomasrobinsonantonio’s Q&A” advice and book it to Cote d’Azure. Once you’re there and the weather forecast for Paris is nice – just hop the plane (or TGV train) and go to Paris for two days.
France is great, there is so much to do in Paris as someone already mention (versaille is also impressive) the French Riviera is beautiful – very impressive and romantic. Go to the small villege of Eze just outside of Monaco, it’s an old midevil village built on the top of a hill with many artist there.
Italy is incredible so much history obvisously Paris will be the coldest place but French rivera is warm as will be most of Italy (I don’t know about the rain I wasn’t there during the fall).
Florence is impressive for a first visit, pisa was good for an afternoon that’s it, Rome has so much to offer as someone already mentioned and Veince is incredible. Venice is different then anything you can see. I heard a lot of negative things about Venice before I went but I was very impressed. A little expensive but you can always find a ways to manage.
You can’t go wrong as both are good options but know that the drivers in Italy are crazy!
Good luck
